The Census Environmental

Impacts Frame

Moving from a place-based to a person-based understanding of environmental inequality

Our mission is to provide researchers, policymakers, and the general public with new and innovative information about the relationship between environmental conditions and the people and businesses of the United States.

Working in collaboration with the U.S. Census Bureau we have produced a new microdata infrastructure that enables a person-focused approach to research – the Census Environmental Impacts Frame (EIF). The EIF leverages confidential Census Bureau data, providing detailed individual-level demographic, economic, and residential location information for the near population of the United States from the late 1990s onwards.

More detail about the Environmental Impacts Frame can be found here.
